System/Network Administrator - Lead

Location: Huntsville, AL

Job Description

The Lead Systems Administrator manages a team of professionals that performs technical planning, design, integration, deployment, verification and validation, cost and risk, supportability, and O&M analyses for total systems.  Analyses are performed at all levels of total system life cycle to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.  Ensures the logical and systematic implementation of total systems solutions within  technical, schedule, and cost constraints, to deliver capabilities that align with and complement organization business processes.  Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and operating system specifications.

Tasks

 

  • Plan, design, install, configure, document, test, and deploy
  • enterprise-level computing solutions.
  • advanced network and application monitoring systems.
  • storage and networking infrastructure including SAN/NAS technologies.
  • tape and disk-based backup & recovery of server environments.
  • Coordinate application deployment with support personnel and project managers.
  • Responsible for full deployment of new hardware and operating systems.  Manages the implementation team to ensure all installs, deployment, and equipment is staged according to projected timelines and within budget.
  • Develops documentation including the use of flowcharts, project specifications, diagrams to align system capabilities to user requirements; develops/modifies illustrations of program milestones necessary to meet user requirements.
  • Consults with end user to identify current business operations and clarify project objectives. 
  • Provides input as technical advisor during client strategic planning (as required). 
  • Responsible for preparing system acceptance test strategies and test plans. 
  • Coordinating production implementations and deployments with client business units; and ensuring project deliverables are successfully achieved.

 

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of Windows client and servers as used in an enterprise setting.
  • Experience with Citrix thin client design, implementation, and administration.
  • Experience with Microsoft Exchange 2003 configuration and administration.
  • Experience with Sun/Oracle Clustering Services including troubleshooting production systems in a high-availability environment.
  • Experience in Sun and Unix systems administration.
  • Detailed understanding of Active Directory, group policy, and the Windows security model.
  • Detailed understanding of network security threats and mitigation techniques.
  • TCP/IP, FTP, PPP, PPTP, DNS, DHCP and other protocols for networking.
  • Experience and expertise with SAN-based storage like EMC enterprise and midrange storage.
  • Experience with Veritas volume manager, SyncSort, and Netbackup.
  • Working experience in web based environments and supporting such architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage work schedules and project priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills & attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • System administration with direct contact with customer and end-users.
  • Experience in a LAN/WAN environment.
  • Experience with MS Windows operating software (Windows Server 2000 and 2003).
  • Patch management experience.

 

Education

BS or MS in Computer Science or 10+ years IT experience with at least 8 years as a System Administrator.
